How the season unfolded

  • A fast start. By September 1 the Chronicle said the Redhawks were off to "one of the best starts in school history." Coach Hans Morgan named Vezmar a captain with defender Jack Luciani and midfielder Carter Peek.

  • Five by early September. Vezmar had already recorded his fifth shutout of the season by the paper's September 8 edition.

  • No. 12 and a conference title. On October 2, Vezmar went the distance in a 5-0 win over Jackson Northwest. It was his 12th shutout, and it clinched Marshall's second straight Interstate 8 title with a perfect 7-0-0 league record. The Redhawks were 18-0.

  • District champions. On October 20, Marshall won its third district title in four years, ranked third in Division 2.

  • The only loss. The run ended October 23 in the regional semifinal at Mattawan against Grand Rapids Christian. It was Marshall's first and only loss of the season.

  • Vezmar finished with 17 shutouts.
